I did it again!!!!!

This is a bit of a silly entry; feel free to skip it if you want, but do check at the bottom for the amount paid for items listed on my last post.

I am a bit (a lot) OCD. I don't have the extremes (yet) of it (and I'm not making fun of anyone that might) but I do have my routines and my likes. Dishes set up a certain way in the dishwasher (yes I change them after hubby stacks them; he doesn't "get" the way they should go, the natural flow so to speak.)

I like my paper towels to look like this.  And no I don't like patterned paper towels. Solid basic white.

This is not how I like my paper towels to look. The pick a size (who invented that and why????)

99.5% of the time I am very careful when we need paper towels and make sure I don't buy the "pick a size" ones. But there are times when I'm stressed or overwhelmed with shopping that I'm 0.5% not careful.

And I pick the wrong size. I did it again a few weeks ago.

There's not much of a difference in size between the two. But really, which one would you prefer to use? The pristine one on the bottom or the dreaded pick a size on top?

This is how they look when they are separated. Really horrid (in my opinion).

And really, what can you do with a paper towel this size? Useless  (again in my opinion).

What generally happens is I end up breaking off 3 half pieces or a piece and a half when I only want the regular basic size of paper towel and waste that extra 1/2.

Drives me crazy!

So when I realized I bought the wrong size a few weeks ago, the minute I did I said "I'll give them to son........he won't mind."

So when son and family came over later that week for dinner I greeted him with 5 rolls of paper towels in bags and said "this is your lucky day." Being on a tight budget, indeed it was a good day for them.

And when I went to the store that week, you betcha. I made sure I didn't get pick a size.

Life is good (at least until I use up the 6 rolls I bought).

Are you a fan of pick a size?

(And to answer on my last post about what we spent for the clothes; the grand total with tax was $41 and change. I was surprised with the various amounts guessed. Some of you came very close or spot on. I think there was only one or two items we bought that weren't reduced 50%. The next sale is this Saturday. Got to talk it over with them and see what is needed to concentrate what I should be looking for. I'm thinking to look for more books; the wee one really enjoys looking through them and while we have some, you can never have too many books :)

The pool water was 63 degrees as of 03/03/2017, 65 degrees as of 03/08/2017. Went up 2 degrees in 5 days. We're warming up here (high 80s). I'm thinking the water might be ready end of April for swimming??? Time will tell.

I thought exactly how you did when I accidently picked up a couple rolls of the 'pick a size' paper towels. I was frustrated because we suffered with them. And I didn't stop complaining or buy new ones. Your pool sounds nice and will be great for you when it's ready to go. ENJOY the beauty of it in the meantime.

I prefer the pick a size...I guess that's why they sell them, for people like me.

I like plain kitchen roll - what's the point in a pattern when you are just going to throw it away? They have to be a certain way round on the holder as well. Now as to the right way to hang a toilet roll - my way is right!

Melanie said...

I love the select a size. The roll lasts MUCH longer because you are using smaller segments at a time. You can do almost the same things with the smaller piece as you do a regular sized paper towel, unless you have a big mess to wipe up. Then you can use 3, which is still less than two of the regular size.

I'm the same way with the dishwasher! LOL... I like everything a certain way or I feel as though the dishes won't be washed properly.

But we part ways on the paper towels because I love the pick a size option. Sometimes I only need a small amount to clean up a mess and it seems like such a waste to use a large piece. I guess we all have our preferences!

A woman after my own heart. ❤
I'm a bit OCD too.

I try to only use rags and cloth kitchen towels for cleaning. About 10 years ago, when stores used to discount their Christmas themed paper rolls for 75% off or more, I bought them by the case. Broken down by roll I barely paid a dime for each. They've since stopped making the holiday themed rolls, or they stock very little, so they've stopped discounting them.

But I bought enough back then to last for years. I'm down to my last case. Since I use them sparingly they might last another 10 years. 😎

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I am an "I don't give a care" about paper towels. However my girl is a pick a size person and that is what we have.

Humans, I love us! Sherry and son jack would redo the dishes in the machine. I will move something big thing if it is blocking a good washing of the other contents. Son Mark would stack them in the dishwasher, he could care less! hahahahaha.

That is what makes the 'world go round' my mama would say, our differences.

You go girl, it is your domain! ;-)

I do like the ones you can split in half and I like a little color, so there you go, I would have taken your towels.

I do like the pick a size but I hate generic. I will pay for name brand good paper towels.
I admit to restacking dishes. Ray does not even try now. We all have our thing
Still brisk water here. I usually aim for May

Enjoy bargain hunting

Funny! I love select-a-size, sometimes even half that. Have fun book shopping and swimming soon.

Since I use the paper towels for every little thing, I like only the select-a-size. So since we disagree so strongly on this, I feel we can not be friends anymore. (LOL!) (Just kidding, of course) (but that's how ridiculous politics are) Glad you were able to pawn those useless towels off on son and start anew. Enjoy your towels ;-)

For sure, you're a gal after my DH's heart. Honestly I don't care, but Tom HATES those select-a-size rolls.
Isn't it funny what (product) variations tend to get under our skin? I'm that way about canned tomatoes.
No more than we use, I still hand-wash our dishes and plop them in the dishwasher every which way, just to drip-dry themselves.

Delightful read, m'friend!

Bijoux said...

Well, there's a right Way to load the dishwasher, and that's my way! Lol!

I only buy patterned paper towels as I don't like the industrial look of the white. I've never bought the pick your size, but I usually tear off smaller pieces from my roll to kill stink bugs or clean a small spot on the floor. We actually don't use many paper towels. A six pack lasts me about a year!

Pat Hatt said...

Wish our water was that warm. lmao look at you go with the ocd show. I don't really care to that extent, but if I had a choice the full one is what I'd go for every time.

Sorry, I like the pick a size.

I liked this post. Ilovehowotherpeople think and the simple things...I mean, you are not going to ask this, at a party...

Liz A. said...

I'm also a bit OCD. But I like the pick a size. I use half a paper towel a lot, in fact more than I use full size, so it works better for me.

We've warmed up here, too. Not as hot as you guys, though.

Secret Agent Woman said...

I actually prefer the ones that are perforated in smaller segments like that. Saves me trying to tear off a smaller bit.

Paula Kaye said...

I don't mind the smaller ones when I get them but I prefer the larger square. I often don't pay any attention. But now that I Clicklist I always get the same ones. Another plus to that wonderful service.

Jerralea said...

I am like you! I love plain white paper towels (those cheesy patterns never match MY kitchen anyway) and I like the one size towel. I always always accidentally tear off 1 1/2 sheets (or 3 sections, I guess) and was that 1/2 sheet.

I'm also pretty picky about my brands, too.

The Brown Recluse (TBR) said...

I prefer the pick a size...I don't mind patterns as long as I like the color of the pattern. I won't get ugly colors! lol I'm not too picky about my paper towels, but now toilet tissue...I'm picky.

I guessed a little over on the clothes But I was still in the $40 range.

Barbara In Caneyhead said...

Wow! You can tell what a tight budget I've been on for so long! I got the about SO close! I said $42.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I am a HUGE fan of select-a-size! In fact, I try very hard not to buy regular. LOL That again goes to the budget I've been on. We don't buy napkins. We use a half size towel folded in half for our napkins. I buy Scott towels mostly, so for small things, one half works. I can usually use one pulled off whole with no problems, even straining my grease/oil. I like cloth rags for real cleaning job, except for glass.

Oh, well. Thankfully, they make plenty of both, so we can each be happy.

I do not like pic-a-size, but I buy mine at the big box stores and they only carry pic-a-size, so I am getting used to them. I am guessing that folks waste more if they pull off half and need a whole one. But maybe that is what the seller is counting on.

Wendy said...

Oh Betty, you're hilarious. It's pick-a-size for me. Perfect for making a sandwich on. Perfect for wiping splattered cake batter off the edge of the cake pan. Perfect for cleaning up small messes. Perfect for an emergency coaster.

Saleslady371 said...

I don't think it's silly to share your preferences. I don't mind the pick a size because sometimes I need a small paper towel for a small job and hey, I'm retired so I'm not in a hurry when it comes to slowing down and getting just the right size ripped off.

I'm too crazy about my floors. When they are clean and shine, I am thrilled but living out here among the dirt and dust of the country I may as well forget perfection. Seems I'm always sweeping and mopping!

Have a wonderful, warm weekend. Loving this weather.

I had to go back and see what my guess was- I was off, but at least in the ballpark. What great deals! Hope more are in store for you next time. :)

Too bad we aren't neighbors- I prefer the pick a size paper towels and get annoyed when I accidentally buy full size. We could swap our errors! I like pick a size because they are the perfect size for me when I dry my hands or clean up. I feel like I use less paper towels overall. When I get the full size I am always tearing them in half (which doesn't work well). I think it comes down to we all like what we like. :)

Happy weekend!

I so enjoy your posts. :) I never bought pick a size, didn't think I would like them, but my uncle bought the pick a size and I like them. lol sometimes if there's just a drip of coffee or something small I only need a small paper towel. we keep them under the sink mounted to the door, I don't like clutter on the counters, so you don't see them until you use them but I still like pretty ones. lol

I was close to your $ for the clothes etc..

happy Friday! hope you enjoy a nice weekend!

interesting post for me as we do not used paper towel here but the pieces of cloth for cleaning the dishes after wash.
you sound more like my grandma and mother who were more specific and careful about using things in their most appropriate way

I have to fix the dishwasher too, Mark just doesn't get it right. I am a fan of the pick a size. It just works for me. Swimming sounds awesome, enjoy your pool. Have a nice weekend.

OCD here!!!!!! Ohhhhhh yes!!!!!!

It used to bother me, why I "had" to know plans, ahead of time? Why I needed plans "set in stone," when everyone else could "go with the flow"? -sighhhhh-

Then I read something, which explained why some people, "need" to be this way. "Need" to know plans, ahead of time. "Need" to be sure! The reason fit and it took a lot of pressure off of me. I "needed" it. I wasn't being unreasonable. That was just me. :-))))))

Anyway..... I prefer the "half a sheet if needed" ones!!!! Because I usually need a small one, to deal with one small spill or the like. If I only need the smaller size, it "bugs" me, to have to use the larger. :-))))

And that is how my OCD works, with paper towels, for me.

Isn't it wonderful, how we are different??!!?? Wouldn't it be boring, if we all had the exact same traits??!!??

Being in the upper NE, our pool will not even be open, for some time.

The next door 6 year old 'grandson' was over yesterday, wanting to check it out though. (Just looking through the pool fence, of course!) He LOVESSSSSSSSS to swim, but has a long wait, still. :-)

I can't say I've ever experienced "pick a size", but if it's similar to the toilet roll where you have to judge how much to rip off instead of getting a dividing line, I don't like that. Kitchen roll is one of our biggest expenses though, what with having five dogs - we need lots for toilet accidents and muddy pawprints!

Jo said...

I love pick a size and buy them all the time. A lot depends on what you are using them for I think. For me, the larger size is a waste.

I am jealous about your pool. We used to have one years ago, then moved down to NC near the coast. No pool in our apartment. Mind you, not warm enough here for an outside pool.

yaya said...

This post made me laugh and cry. Laugh because I don't really have any opinion about paper towels but yours were funny! (sorry! I know they are serious to you!) Why did I cry? Well, you're watching your pool temp rise and I'm watching our air temps fall and the approach of 5-8in. of snow tomorrow! Holy cow..I might need paper towels to sop up my tears! Have a good week!

Alicia said...

Before they invented pick a size my mom would also tear off a regular sheet, fold it in half and the tear it in half and leave the half she didn't use sitting on top of the paper towel holder. Being a bit OCD myself it drove me crazy! I would rather she just use the whole thing and throw it away then leave a ripped up half on the holder.

Now I buy the pick a size and mom just takes the size she needs. I know it's irritating to your OCD, but it soothes my OCD. It takes all kinds right? Your post made me giggle.

Danielle L Zecher said...

You sound like me with the dishes. :-)

Paper towels are one of the few things I'm not that picky about. We just buy a jumbo package of plain white ones at Sam's Club and call it good.

You did really well, I think, for what you spent on all of the baby things from your last post. And you can never have too many books.

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

LOL. I love the select a size. I hate when I accidentally get the ones you like. Good buys on those baby things. I don't mind pool water if it hits 70 as long as the weather is hot.

Juli G said...

I prefer the paper towels that show up in my house, that I don't have to buy, before they run out. :)

On a different note... no pool weather here... in the 30's. We avoided most of the snow (it turned to rain) but not before I took Oldest out to practice driving in it. :)

Crystal Collier said...

LOL! I'm not picky. We're still in that budget sensitive stage, so I'm good with whatever. BUT, I totally get why you'd want the larger ones. I have little kids with little messes sometimes, so the small is okay too.

I hear you about the dishwasher. I have my way and my way is the only right way to arrange things.

I have actually gotten used to the pick a size paper towels. There are some advantages.

I actually like the pick a size towels. We use the smaller ones to eat sandwiches, etc. I do understand about the dishwasher. There is usually a very good reason to every system. I catch myself some about giving too many instructions. It dries up my help. lol
I'd love to visit your pool. I would love to put one in here. I just don't think I can handle one more chore though.

I have OCD tendencies in some areas, and I totally get that dishes need to be a certain way in the dishwasher. I'm not quite as picky about paper towels. Sometimes all I need is a smaller one.

I'm sure your pool will be swim-ready soon, I miss my Arizona pool.

Well, you like what you like. For most of my life I've been pretty hung up on having things just so, but in my current location (I recently moved to a very rural community a little south of the Arctic Circle) that hasn't been possible. It's definitely an adjustment, and one I'm still not entirely comfortable with.
