pictures and sort of an announcement (gasp)

Lisa over at Salemslot9 journal commented on my last post about the couch that she remembered a picture of our kitchen table with card tables/chairs and a blue table cloth. Excellent memory she had because that was what we had until we purchased the table below. I thought I had shared a picture of it.

So now I am sharing a picture of it. Usually I have a table cloth on it, took it off so you could all see the table. It fits perfectly in its spot.

The new couch. It was never on my radar to purchase something like this, but it really is comfortable. Hubby has spent a few nights on it and I've taken a nap or two on it. Its a little shorter than our previous couch we had, but it still is very comfortable.

How they look together in the den. And so much more lightweight compared to our other couch and love seat. I did text son after we couldn't move the couch out of the old set before the new ones were delivered to see if he could come and help us at least move it to the garage. He came later the same day with a truck he had rented and within 10 minutes he and his friend had moved both the love seat and couch into the truck. He used the love seat inside the house of his and the couch in the back yard under a covered patio. Looks really nice.

and now my big announcement.

......drum roll.......

builds anticipation.....

a little excitement........

a bit of a pause......

I am NOT doing the A/Z challenge this year. Those who are familiar with it know the change this year with the hosts not providing a list of sign ups prior to the start of the challenge.

That is not the reason I'm not doing the challenge.

I already decided not to do the challenge before their announcement.

Personally, I liked the list. Others didn't. It was flawed, links that didn't work, etc. But I did find a lot of good blogs to follow through the challenge on the list and then beyond the challenge. The list works if you work the list. (Some of you will understand what I'm talking about).

I loved the A/Z challenge. I embraced it. I followed the recommendations. Visit new blogs daily, visit those who visit you, etc. Participated in 4 out of the last 5 years. Signed up in 2013, but bowed out days before the challenge due to a family crisis, even though I had all my posts written (and deleted them; I regret that, I had good things written).

I loved the theme of the last 3 years with pictures of this and that.

But I got burned out last year. I was a minion (helping to keep track of blogs participating). I enjoyed that but had some frustrations about diligently checking the blogs I was responsible for, reporting blogs that weren't participating or hadn't posted within the time lines established, and the blogs weren't removed from the list. That in addition to the multiple blogs I visited and didn't get a percentage of return visitors convinced me it was time to move on.

So no A/Z for me this year. I'll visit those on my blog readership that do participate as often as I can. April will be (I hope) a bit saner this year.

and what say you? Do you like our new furniture?

Are you participating in A/Z this year?

Are you a bit jealous it was 80 degrees here on Friday?

Like the new furniture.

I'm not a fan of the A-z thing, it is a good idea, but it also forces a lit of posts that feel like just that, forced posts.

My mmo had a couch that was too big. She had it cut down so it was not really couch and too big for a love seat, she called it "The Bastard" got a lot of strange looks when she told someone to take a seat on "The Bastard."

I LOVE your furniture. It's so cool. That sofa and loveseat do look nice and comfy cozy. As for the weather.... twenty degrees here, eighty degrees there. Doesn't seem fair, does it?

Kitchen table and sofa looks good. We can enjoy our seating and food by having it in this luxury furniture...

I like all of your furniture. The couch and loveseat is snazzy. :)I like your fireplace. I had one in Orlando and I used it every winter, they're so cozy. I'll be doing the same once we buy our own home. I really would like a ranch home and they're rare here and cost more.
We hit 78 degrees yesterday and 70 on Saturday! It was a nice treat! We were outside a lot with the pups and just out and about.
Hope you had a nice weekend.

I love your new furniture and the size is perfect. I'd love to get something like that as mine is old and bulky but it's still comfortable so I'll probably keep it around till it totally wears out. I have never done a-z as I like to pick my own topics. I can understand why you don't want to participate. Yes, I am a bit envious of your 80 degrees, but we are having an usually good February for us so I'm not complaining.

They sure look comfy to lie on, not sure about sitting as you'd really have to lie back and my back is rather meh when it comes to that. Ugg we are getting blasted with snow, so 80 we'd surely like. I never even knew that about the a to z list. Meh, I'm done anyway and mine doesn't go from a to z haha

The temps here are wavering between twenty and fifty. However, the anemones are up, but no flowers yet.

Love the two-tone wood dining set. Couch looks comfy, kinda a retro and masculine look. Son was very efficient! We had a beautiful 44-degrees Saturday.

Maria Zannini said...

I love your couch. For me comfort is paramount. I have trouble sitting for long periods so it really has to be cushy. :)

re: A-Z
I never cared for this blog tour. Even when my friends participated, I didn't visit because most of the time the posts were dull or contrived.

I like fresh material and personal experience stories.

I desperately want a new couch, I HATE the one I have. This spring, I swear, I will get off my duff and buy a new one. I bought the current one online and that was a mistake.

Bijoux said...

Of course I'm jealous of 80 degrees! I like the table and chairs because I like white painted wood.

Danielle L Zecher said...

I like your couch and love seat, but I love your dining room set! That looks really nice. :-) We have my grandmother's old table, which is nice, but the chairs are just horrible. I really like yours. I may have to look for chairs like that.

I haven't read the new information about the A to Z blog yet. I haven't decided whether or not I'm doing A to Z this year. I've enjoyed it (I'm pretty sure it's how we connected), but it is a lot of work. I think Herding Cats & Burning Soup is hosting a blog ahead challenge at the beginning of March. I've thought about doing that and letting how it goes determine whether or not I do A to Z.

80 degrees sounds nice. We were in the 70s yesterday and Saturday, though, so I really can't complain.

I do like the furniture. And boy do I like LIGHT! Always enjoy coming here. I have never participated in A-Z to regimented for me. I am scatteratic enough. hahahah.
The table is my kind of table. Yes I like it!
Never a disappointment on a visit to your house.

Your new furniture looks comfy. Glad you had quick help to move the old stuff. Sons do come in handy!
I am not doing A to Z this year. Did not have an awesome theme and did not want to be slap dash.
It can be fun but is a lot of work

Have a good week! Enjoy your temps

The furniture looks great.

I'm debating A to Z. I like the idea of no list. And I generally write every day anyway. But it is a lot of work (even without being a minion). It's true, a lot of those you visit don't reciprocate, but those that do can become long term blogging buddies.

Yes, No, and Yes!!!

:) the sofa and love seat (and dining room table) look marvelous!

Paula Kaye said...

Love all of your new furniture. When I downsize and move into a smaller house I want to get new furniture too. We'll see! I don't know if I am doing the A to Z either. I just don't have the enthusiasm. I am one of those who like the idea of no list! I totally agree with you about little reciprocation. BUT most of my blogging friends were met during one challenge or another. So I just can't make up my mind. I have a theme but I haven't written anything yet!!

Mevely317 said...

That sofa and love seat combo are amazing! :) Best, that they passed the 'nap test'!

Having never participated in the A-Z Challenge, I probably should defer ... but that seems like such an undertaking. I didn't realize you'd been recruited to help track other participants, in addition to working full time?! Good grief, how burdensome, is that?!

Jealous? No, just sad that it's warming up so fast.

Chatty Crone said...

I do love your new furniture. And I think or it would be for me - a personal A-Z challenge - that would be a lot of work!

Wendy said...

I do indeed like your new furniture. Love the color. Love the lines. Love how it fits the space perfectly. Very stylish too.

I'm not doing A-Z either. I did 5 years in a row, never missing a day. But I'm out of theme ideas. I never expected to build readership since genealogy isn't for everyone; I always did it to get my own stories written. I understand getting rid of the list because it was a frustrating monstrosity. The last couple years I relied on those who linked in the AZ Facebook group because it was time consuming going to the list only to go to someone who quit participating.

Plowing Through Life (Martha) said...

Yes, I like your new furniture very much! And yes...I am VERY jealous it was 80 degrees on Friday where you live. We were nowhere near that. It's winter, winter, winter over here :)

An A-Z challenge is a lot of work. I'm impressed that you did it so many times!

Birgit said...

Your furniture looks great. The living room furniture has a retro suave feel like you should have some Sinatra or Dean Martin playing I. The background. I'll be doing the A to Z again even though I find it hard to respond and visit...I just hope I can hook up every day. I don't miss 80 and probably one of the only ones to say this. We have had damp, dreary cool days of 4 or 6 C which is horrible. I want -6 to even -10 with lots of snow!

Megan Whitson Lee said...

Love the couch set. No, I'm not doing it. I would die under the stress of having to do one. More. Thing.

Saleslady371 said...

I never participated in the challenge, but I'm grateful for it because I met you! I learned a lot too. I really like the new kitchen set. It fits perfectly! I like the color and style of the new sofa & love seat too. It cries out comfortable. And that is what is most important. Funny how we say never...and it ends up in our home!

Yes! I do love the new furniture!! Your house looks wonderfully inviting! I do not participate in any challenges... I am lucky to get on here to visit the few blogs that I do visit. It seems that each time I come to blog-land I am interrupted by one thing or another and so it goes... I do Facebook only because it is fast and easy. Blogging takes more thought, effort and time and now that my husband is retired.. well, that's a whole new story. lol. Your 80 degrees did make me a bit jealous. But that fabulous pool of yours makes me even more jealous ;-) Happy Valentines Day, Betty!!

I LOVE the new furniture! It looks fantastic!
I have never done the A/Z and don't plan on starting now. ;)

And I am SOOOOO jealous of your 80 degree weather!!! I can't wait for summer!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I really like those sofas. They have a mid-century modern look to them.

I've never done the A-Z challenge, but my feeling about any blogging activity is that you should only do ones that bring you pleasure.

I love the table and chairs along with your new couch/love seat. Glad your son showed up with the truck and is able to use your older set. I've never done A-Z, too much pressure for me and it would be difficult to follow people who also do it. Too much reading for me. I here reading for a few hours each day as it is. Hope all is well with you. Take care, Debby

Debby said...

I like your new sofa and love seat. Looks firm yet comfortable for those who have bad lower backs like me.

I'm disappointed that A-Z won't have that major sign up list, too. I liked it. I betcha, this will be the only year without it. It won't work. People liked it.

Love the furniture... love the sunlight that floods your room even more.

Weather was gorgeous here today... 32 degrees, but sunny all day so it felt like 45... I sported the sweatshirt most of the day.

88 just doesn't feel like winter, but I suppose it's all in what you know.. :)

The dining set looks perfect! And I really like your couch and loveseat, too. Nice style. I'm tending towards something more compact, as well. We have looked at a few sets and often the seats are so long that we can't really sit back and have our feet on the floor at the same time. Don't want something like that.
I was looking forward to your A-Z posts, but your reasons for not doing it this year are good ones. I have been considering doing it this year (I did it years ago, two years in a row), but I think it'll be too time consuming. Fun to read others' posts, though!

Wonderful place. I like the sunlight coming in through the white blinds.

The table does fit perfectly! I also think the new couch and love seat look great. The room looks very spacious. Glad the couch is comfortable too.

I have never done the A-Z Challenge, though I do enjoy visiting blogs and seeing the different themes and posts. I give people who are able to keep up with all the postings a lot of credit. I can imagine being a minion was a lot of work. I have wanted to try it in the past, but it tends to be a big editing time for me. Curious to see the posts this year. :)

I love your table and chairs. I used to have one very similar but it only accommodated 4 chairs and had white tile on top. We called it a farmhouse table. I loved that table, but when my mom moved in with me she didn't like it, felt that the tile made it feel cold and hard, so we bought a different wood table.

I'm in the market for new couches and I really love that style! They look great!

I've never done the A/Z thing, but have participated in an online book club and as someone else said in a comment, sometimes I felt that my post was "forced" and I really didn't enjoy "having to post". At this point in my life I just like to blog when the mood strikes me.

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

I love your furniture. I'm not doing the A to Z except as part of a group blog. I had already decided after last year. Like you, I didn't get near the return visits as I expected. But I'm also expecting that new grandchild next month and expect I'll be busy doing some babysitting in April.

Your couches look really nice and cozy! I also like the dining set :)

I can understand why you decided not to participate in A to Z this year. Your minion experience sounded rough. I'm still undecided for this year. I did come up with a much simpler theme I could use, but I'm still unsure about all the visits and comments. I do tend to have a tough time with that because of being tired after work most days. I'm almost glad that there isn't a list this year so I don't have to commit early.

I love your new furniture. Fits the space perfectly!

I completely understand your decision re A-Z.

Hope your weekend is very enjoyable.
