bargains galore

Let's play a little game

These are all gently used items.  Four books and three baby toys here.

Six pairs of baby shorts, size 18 months.

Four sleepers; size 18 months.

Picture a bit fuzzy, but three shirts, size 18 months.

Three outfits, size 18 months. Can mix and match them with shorts above.

Two additional outfits, size 18 months.

Keep reading, the game will be at the end of the post.

We found this great kids consignment sale called Kids Closet Connection that here is held monthly at different locations (except for the months of December and January). The premise is people can sell their kids' items no longer needed at prices they set and they get a certain percentage of the sale back and the rest goes to charity and expenses.

From what I understand after talking to a lady volunteering at the sale, you get 65% of your sales price automatically. If you volunteer to help out at the sale you get 80% (you have to do a minimum of one 4 hour shift). If you do four 4 hour shifts you also get a $10 Visa gift card.

The sale is held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I believe if I read it correctly there is a pre-sale on Wednesday evening for foster parents and grandparents raising their grandchildren (I think that is neat).

The size of the clothing goes from newborn to size 20 in kids.

The people who want to sell their stuff bring their stuff in with the prices they want. Everything is categorized and every item has a sales ticket on it. The seller has the choice of discounting the item 50% on the last day of the sale on Saturday. It will say on the sales ticket whether the item is 50% off on the last day of the sale. For items that don't sell, they can pick them up I believe the Sunday after the sale.

We have been to three of these consignment sales so far. Each have been different because they've been in different locations and it also depends who will bring their stuff to sell. Sometimes we've gotten more toys, this time we got more clothes. It just depends.

We go on Saturdays because of our work schedules. I look for items that are offered at 50% off on the last day of the sale. If I see something cute that is not 50% off, I'll ask hubby "is it worth so and so" (full price offered) and if he says "no" we don't get it.

Most of the items we bought were 50% off on this particular sale a week or so ago.

We bought an additional item that I didn't take a picture of that cost $4.50 and was not 50% off on the day of the sale. That is to maybe help you if you want to play along with the game.

We got 7 toys and 22 pieces of clothing for grandson as listed above, plus that additional item for step grand daughter that I didn't take a picture of. (I don't shop for her at these sales because my DIL's mom works at Last Chance at Nordstrom and she gets some incredibly great deals with her discounts, etc. Plus I have no fashion sense what a 11-1/2 year old girl would want to wear).

With 12 month old grandson, basically they go through lots of clothes and anything works for them if it is clean and comfortable.

Here's the game if you want to play along. No prizes awarded.

What do you think we paid for all above that we purchased???

Answer on my next post.

My only clue I'll give you.

It was lower than I expected.

And a great bargain.

I'm looking forward to March's sale!

I know this would be a great deal and I'm going by Canadian dollars when I added things up so I will say $45. I love shops like these especially for adults:) one can get so much. I am thinking I a, way too high but that is what I will go by

I took a guess going by what I would pay for them on sale. $40.00 I visited many consignment shops over the years and loved them.

I think $45, US.

Imma say $18,50 just to be the wild card. I do think people on a budget or that have a lot of common sense attends sells such as this. To pay high dollar for an item that is used for such a relatively short period of time is folly.

I wouldn't have a clue never having bought baby clothes. Looks like you got quite a haul though.

I don't have a clue what baby clothes go for, but I know you to be a savvy shopper, so I'll say you spent under $20.

I guess $15 - but I have no idea at all! lol

$23, which was 50 percent off of what I'd think it would sell for at a consignment shop.

I will guess $37. you got some really cute items! they offer similar sales at the NC fairgrounds here. I see it advertise on t.v.. I'm thinking about leasing a space at the flea market there maybe monthly. I think overall I would make more $ there over ebay, especially for larger items. :)

That is a neat way to get the kiddo some things.

hmmm $24.25 is my guess.

Things often vary in price according to geographic location. I do not know your area. Here because I shop alot of thrifts I'm going to say $8.50 to $15, total.

With the 50% discount, my guess is $27. What a neat way to shop for kids.

My thought is that if these items were new and on sale at a regular store, they would total around $100. I'm not sure about consignment sales, but I'm thinking with a bargain price plus 50% off, you probably paid around $30.

Best dressed grandson, I'll go with $29.99. I'm not the best at the Price is Right, but I do know you can't overbid! You are having fun!!!

I'll sayyyyyyy.... $25.... Great looking clothes, by the way! I love the shark shorts. I really enjoy yard-sale finds where I can clean up on nice clothes for the kids.... Yard sale weather just around the corner ;-)

I have never done consignment shopping. My ex-DIL sells all of her clothes and Paiges' in consignment shops and gets a pretty good penny for them. Much more than she would get at a garage sale. I just donate all of ours to Goodwill!

I'd say about $30. Great idea.

Considering how fast kiddos at that age go through clothes, this is a wonderful idea. I've seen similar things locally, although I think it was a full on consignment shop that's always there. And I know there's a clothing exchange a local multiples club does (one must be a parent of twins, triplets, etc to belong).

I'm not going to play. I'm terrible at guessing prices.

What a great concept ..... I love shopping 'gently used'!

I, too, have NO idea what littles' clothes go for, but I'll go out on a limb and say $57.31. That was really sweet of y'all to include big sister in your bounty.

We have the same kind of consignment/charity sales here, around twice a year. Church preschool programs usually host them as a fundraiser for the school. We also have several baby consignment shops. One is a chain called Once Upon a Child. We shop there routinely because babies outgrow their clothes before they can wear them out. We have also gotten good deals on toys, pack & play, stroller, and walker.

Nifty haul. I will guess $32. And indeed impossible to choose for an 11 year old. They have fashion sense by that age.
All in all you had fun too

$26

You did get a lot.

This is such a great concept! I haven't a clue what all of it would cost at a bargain price but I'll take a guess for the fun of it. Hmmmm...how about $29.99 for the whole batch?

We have Mom to Mom sales here and my daughter-in-law has gone and picked up some great items. My guess is $22.00

Considering how fast little ones grow out of things, it's a great idea, and bargains are always worthwhile.

I haven't a clue how much all that would cost brand new, but I'll take a guess, just for the fun of it... I'm saying $25 for everything.

Ann Bennett said...

It all looks new. I am guessing $18 since so much was half price. What a good idea. I love the outfits.

Danielle L Zecher said...

I'll guess $30.00, but I really don't know anything about pricing for baby stuff, so I'm probably way off.

They have something like that here called Wee Trade, but it's only twice a year. I've never been, but a few of my friends and co-workers with babies and small children absolutely love it.

The shark shorts are really cute.

I haven't got a clue but you got some really cute items. I have a friend that does that with her 4 children.

I'm going with $25. My DIL always bought all my Grandkiddos clothes at consignment shops or garage sales. Christmas toys too when the kiddos were little. She also sold her stuff at the shops too. Amazing deals and so smart when kids grown up so fast and out grow everything. Great idea!

DMS said...

I am not sure- maybe $45-50 (looks and sounds like a lot, but I am trying to use the clues). I can't wait to see the answer. I also agree with you that it is hard to buy clothes for girls that age. :)

Glad you got some great finds!

Your grandson is going to be well dressed!! $18?

And wow! a SpongeBob bonus too!!

I can't even guess on the price. I shopped at a consignment store when my daughter was little. After having three boys, I had no hand me downs from them but I liked her to have lots of girly things to wear.
That is a great idea for helping out everyone.

Nick Wilford said...

This does sound like a great idea, especially as they go through clothes on a pretty constant basis at that age. I'll guess $27 for the whole lot?

I gather from this that your grandson is growing like a weed! Some really cute little boy things your found. I'll play along and say $42 for everything.

I am going to guess $18.25 :)

Hmm... I'll guess $26.50.

I love these types of stores. I bring my gently used items in to a local store like this every season. You can find some great things there too.

The Brown Recluse (TBR) said...

A stab in the dark...$49.50. We have a kids swap here...and another deal that I can't remember the name, but it's like a huge indoor kids yard sale. It's a huge thing.

My initial guess was $17.50...but since it's 22 articles of clothing, plus toys, I guessed I needed to up the figure. lolz
