tying up loose ends

There were a couple blog posts where I asked your advice about this and that and I thought you might be interested to see what the "final outcome" was.

Remember when I asked your opinion about posting a sign to keep solicitors away? We finally did get a sign and attached it to the window by the front door.  The outcome?  Wouldn't you know it.  Honestly since that time NO ONE trying to sell something or solicit something has come to the door (at least through the hours of 9:30 a.m to 6 p.m. when I'm working). So not sure if it is effective, but its posted. Time will tell.

Remember the post about the sewer bill from our previous home in San Diego? Something that I was trying to resolve close to a year after the property was no longer ours? I have to give hubby credit. When he decided to pursue it, he went after it diligently.  He called literally every day and explained the situation, tried to get resolution.  He finally connected with one of the people I had originally talked to who had moved up to management over time.  He got her personal number there at the company and called her daily. This happened pretty much daily through the month of August. She told him that the system was undergoing a change that month, but she was working on getting things cleared up and called him to let him know that the account had been closed. They bill bimonthly.  We should have gotten a bill in October. Guess what? No bill!! And so far no bill in December. Due to his diligence (and kindness in doing so because he is an incredibly kind person, more so that me, I'm more generous, but he's more kind) this was resolved.

So now the burning question I just have to ask......

You knew there would be a question, didn't you?

Are you done Christmas shopping?

Or are you dreading it?

For us, we are only buying for the wee ones this year. I'm 50% done. Just need about 1-2 hours to wrap it all up.

And you'll be proud of me. I have a Christmas tree up and decorated and a strand of lights outside shining as we speak. A few other decorations and that's about it.

I'm actually doing okay with the fact that Christmas is a mere 17 days away. I'm not panicking or in despair.

Life is good

because (fill in the blank)

I'm not in panic mode either Betty. This might be a first for me. The decorating is done. I am giving all the kids money gift cards. They can buy what they want. Harley and I will make a few things for her to give to her friends. And I've planned Christmas dinner. We are having company come on Christmas Eve and they will stay until Monday after Christmas. Yippee! All will be okay. No panic here yet!! Glad your husband was able to solve the problem with the bill. And hopefully the sign will keep away the solicitors. I don't get many at my house. I usually don't answer the door if I don't know who it is.

I just don't worry about it. What gets done, gets done. My middle child does a lot of the decorating, cookies and the cards for me because she enjoys it.

Yes, all presents bought and wrapped. The tree and house decorations are going up over the weekend (just have to persuade hubby to get them down from the attic). Cards will be written soon, or at least the ones that need to be posted.

Lots to be thankful for here today! You are on a roll, girl! We are tweaking the decorations and most of the gifts are purchased. Although are grandparents ever done? I am still walking through the toy aisle when I stop at Walmart. Our kids like gift cards and we are all on Amazon so I appreciate it when they keep up their wish lists. Yesterday my Christmas gift arrived from Tom, a smart phone. I've never had one. Lots to learn!

Keep up that good Christmas spirit!

Good to hear the results and that they are good. Here Christmas is coming way to fast. I have done some shopping but now have to do the wrapping. Sounds like you do have that Christmas spirit at your house!

I am done, woo hoo. When wrapping yesterday, I realized the top of the line thermal mug I bought Laura did not have a locking tab. Seriously, about as useful as a tit on a bull hog, as my friend Nina says. Back to Amazon, to learn there is a separate industry that supplies caps for must have Yeti cups. It will be here tomorrow, I'm sure.

I am waiting on deliveries but I am DONE shopping. I have one thing left as my oldest daughter decided she loves word search puzzles. I will pick one up at the dollar store on my next visit, but that is all I have left.

Glad you got your bill fixed. We celebrated Christmas with one grandson - 6 - when he was here in November - sort of - sent him home with lots of WRAPPED presents - and we will celebrate with grandson number two on Christmas and yes his gifts are WRAPPED. I am on the ball this year. Teehee. Merry Christmas.

I'm glad the fiasco with your sewer is over. What a circus!

re: Christmas
I actually got done extra early, and that was due to posting those Christmas guides once a week on my blog.

As I was looking for good gift ideas to share, I found quite a few for my list.

So it only takes a year? We're still dealing with the cable company that we parted ways with in June.

Nope, haven't done any Christmas shopping yet. Or Christmas knitting. And I'm not panicking. I think I'm in denial. Well, if nothing's done, then they're getting gifts in January. Or February.

It is always good to read of 'good outcomes'. Thanks for the updates. I thought most of all about the 'bill'. That one we can relate to and yes, it is really nice to meet (via phone or letter) the gov't worker who is 'kind' and not just going thru the motions. It gives one a good feeling.

Proud of YOU and Christmas.

Life is good because I feel good, family is well and HE is in control. AND..... AND we have good friends we have never met!

haha I would have got snippy wit the sewer company after a while, good that it is resolved though. Christmas is all done here indeed, easy peasy when you're a poor, not so starving, author lmao

Methinks your hubby deserves a halo! I wonder if some companies deliberately make things difficult, hoping people will grow tired and throw up their hands.

If you'd asked me last week, 'Yes' all the shopping's done. Except what I ordered for my AGM arrived Monday containing the WRONG item and now Etsy won't return my e-mail. Then the Etsy placemats I ordered for my boss' conference table turned out tackier than what I envisioned. Thinkin' I may have to break-up with Etsy. Thank goodness, one can't go wrong with Total Wine and More! :)

Maybe the sign has been enough to keep the solicitors away. :) Awesome news about the sewer bill. Thanks for updating us on those past post questions.

Great job with the Christmas shopping and decor. I don't buy many presents, but I try to get something small and meaningful for the people in my life. I have a lot left to do- but I know it will all get done.

YAY about the Christmas tree and the peaceful feeling you have about the whole season. That is wonderful. And all the things that have been resolved...that's great!

I was going to say that I haven't started any shopping but I just remembered that I've ordered my husband's gift. So I've taken one teeny tiny step forward! LOL...

Not done...I have it about half finished. I'm really considering just giving gift cards next year. (Except for the littles since they like opening gifts.)I will get it done. (I hope)

I'm glad you and your husband were able to resolve that bill issue and that your sign is working so far. I'm also glad to hear you have some Christmas decorations up, God will help you through this season :)

I'm not really panicked about Christmas presents. Usually if I can't find something in time, I resort to gift cards. Surprisingly, I've actually found a lot of little trinkets some family and friends may enjoy. I came across these items in the last month or so in unexpected places. It is nice when you see something and think, "Hey, so and so would love this!" I just need to gather up and sort these small gifts to see what else I might need to get.

Christmas does come quickly when you're a grownup. We don't exchange gifts. My mother never liked the commercialization of Christmas. Me, I like to enjoy the holiday not the pressure. As far as gifts, kids only is my motto.

I've done a fair amount of shopping, but will also give money to the kids. I have lots of decorations up but the big tree goes up this week-end. I'd put more lights outside if I could figure out where I stashed them. Oh, and cookies are in the freezer. I'm pretty far ahead in my 'to-do' list. Life is good because we are all here to celebrate it.

I need to get going with the Christmas stuff. I did some cards - and some gifts - but I am a long way from done.

I'm glad your sign seems to be working - and that the sewer bill is done and dusted FINALLY! Jeepers - it shouldn't have taken that much energy!

Glad that bill got sorted out!
I believe I am done Christmas shopping as of yesterday. We still have a very long list of people we send to but they are mostly Gift Cards and an extra little gift for most of the kids. I'm still decorating and won't be done until Sunday. Then the out of town boxes get worked on and hope to ship them out on Friday. Then next in line is the baking. I feel like I did a complete turn around from what I was feeling a few weeks ago and feeling happy....
I am very proud of you, way to go on decorating and shopping!

Glad the sign seems to be working, and the sewer bill issue seems to be resolved.

That's great about the Christmas tree and decorations!

We finished sorting cards and gifts today for those we send to, and finished putting the holiday decorations up yesterday, after having fetched our tree on Wednesday.

Not doing too bad with Christmas preparations, but I can't believe it's only two weeks away!

All the best Jan

because.... HE LIVES!

I have absolutely no room in my house for storing stuff or organizing what I have so far, so I am going to guess by looking at the piles of stuff here and there and by my Amazon account... that I am 80% finished with the shopping. We had bought the kids each a hatchimal (that's 5 total!) right smack dab before they became the fad gift of the year and the price went up over 400%.... and as I look at these things back there in their box I think, Wow - I have over a thousand dollars worth of stuff here.... and I paid so much less for them. LOL!

Maybe your sign really is working. I'm so glad you (or hubby!) finally got the bill issue resolved. It has to be nice not to have that hanging over you.

I know I'm a little late in answering, but the Christmas shopping is basically done. We just have to pick up gift cards for Nick's dad and grandfather, which we'll probably do this weekend.

I finished wrapping everything last night. I had planned on some cutesie little tags making things from the pets, but we lost a very dear friend last week, and that kind of changed things a little bit. We're moving forward, though, and I was finally able to finish and put all of the wrapping paper away.

I'm just waiting on one gift card that Nick's mom is mailing me for his stepdad. It's for a local (to them) sandwich place he likes. She and I just swapped buying gift cards (I'm mailing her one for my friend Crystal).

I have a little box and just enough paper left out to wrap it. Once that's done, I think we're all good.

I have a little bit of shopping done but it won't take me long except for two gifts that I'm not sure of. Glad you got the sewer bill worked out and yeah for no one knocking on the door.

Good news on 2 problems solved! And had I read this post when you published it, I would have said I was ALMOST finished shopping, but since I am late reading and responding, I can proudly say DONE! My house has been decorated for several weeks. I purposely invited neighbors for Happy Hour the first Sunday in December just to force myself to get ready.
