Xantera

A/Z Theme - Sights and Sites of Arizona

X - Xanterra

We all know how challenging the letters Q, X, and Z can be to try to get something for the A/Z challenge.  I'm always on the lookout for those hard letters.  This again could be a bit of a stretch, but it still is within the theme.

Xanterra is the company that handles all the commerce for the Grand Canyon. If you buy a souvenir, it will have a sticker on it from Xanterra, etc.  When we first went to the Grand Canyon years ago, it was the Fred Harvey Company. So obviously over time it changed owners.

And then of course all their vehicles would be appropriately marked.

Think you would like working at a national park?

I think I would, as a seasonal worker like some hire for. It would be fun to be in the area and when not working have a chance to explore the park perhaps more in depth than just a "quick" visit to them.

the letter x is very hard, but you did great

Perfect for X! My friend and I took a picture in front of out Xanterra tour bus when we went to the Grand Canyon. Based on the stories the tour guide told of the community, I think it would be fun to work there for a short time :)

I agree that X is one of the hard ones. I think you did well with this.

My neighbor is a tour guide so is in the parks a lot leading groups on hikes. She loves it!

I like the idea of working in a national park, but it would have to be one of the jobs in a booth or something, so I could sit down :).

OK...I'm impressed you found this great entry for X. This was a tough one! I'd work for a day in a park...that's about it. Ha! I'm not an outdoorsy person, and I'm terrified of bears!

Well you did it! The letter X. And it was a good one.
The Grand Canyon is one of those bucket list items for us. I've never been camping. The beach is more my style.

Good x find. I think it would be fun a time or two, after that I wouldn't want to work there any more though.

I would love working in a national park! You would get to meet people from all over the world.

X-cellent choice!

I once dreamed of being a forest ranger.

Our national parks are such wonderful places. In my younger days I spent many hours in our local parks and am thankful for them. Never as a worker though, only visiting.

Hmm, now I want to check my souvenirs. I've often thought it would be fun to be a costumed character at Williamsburg or Jamestown here in Virginia. It probably gets very hot in the summer though.

That is an interesting name. Not your ordinary run of the mill name. I had a friend who was a park ranger. Sounded intriguing.

Yes, I would very much enjoy working in a national park! As long as I could take my camera along and be free to photograph whenever I felt like it :)

Great X word. You are unique. I would enjoy work at a park. Figure folks are there because they want to and tend to be happy on vacation. Pleasant atmosphere.

Great job finding an X word. I am going to have to cheat a little...

We hope to get to the Grand Canyon one of these days. It is on the bucket list...

I think I might like to work at an English Heritage location, because some of the history is fascinating and the surroundings can be beautiful - ruined abbeys, castles, ancient monuments :)

That was a good pick and, of course, anything having to do with the Grand Canyon is interesting.

I think if I were younger I'd work for the National Park. I can say I've lived in one as 3/4 of St. John, in the Virgin Islands, is National Park. There are pros and cons to it...

That might be an interesting job. But hard for seasonal workers to find something in the off season, I'd imagine.

I think I would like to work in a National Park, such beautiful settings.

I agree--I'd like to work for one for a short time and explore all it had to offer.

Good X find, Betty! I think working for a national park would be great fun! And a good way to meet people!

I love nature and would love working as a volunteer at a national park!

It would be an interesting job without doubt, but I'd be too tempted to wander off and explore.

Great choice for X today!

I think I'd like that!

A bit of A-Z nonsense!

What a cool logo! I've never thought about what goes behind the souvenirs at places like these.

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

I would have loved to do that when I was young and unattached. Good find for the letter.

Well done on X.

Perhaps if there was some kind of job that required sitting by a lake, then I could be a worker for the parks system ... :)

I have never heard of the company before.

Great catch, there!
Yes, I'd love to work - or even volunteer - at one of our national parks. (But I'd probably be fired for calling out those pigs who litter!)

Sounds like an interesting season job to me too.

Interesting, I never realized that the Grand Canyon was owned by a company. It has been at least 30 years since I was there, so I'm assuming that Xanterra was not involved with the Grand Canyon then. You lucked out that Xanterra contributed to your A - Z Challenge! ;-) Good for them!

Good entry and information. We do like the Grand Canyon, We have friends who have worked as seasonal workers at a national Park. We have never done it, but have thought about it.

I saw there name everywhere on my visit to the Grand Canyon. Not a stretch at all.

Kat said...

Ha! Well, aren't you clever! I'm off to check my Grand Canyon merchandise. ;)

By the way, if I haven't said so already, I love your header picture! :)

I think I might enjoy working at a National Park. How lucky to come up with this for "X"......

This is a perfect way to deal with X. I think I would like working at a park or an art gallery or a tour guide because you are always learning and can disappear into that world even with oth headaches that can appear like in any job.
