Drive-Through

A/Z - Theme sights and sites of Arizona

D - Drive through

Bearizona Wildlife Park a delightful drive through a park to see wild animals as well as so much more.  The park is located in the city of Williams, Arizona.

You get a receiver thingy like this so that when you are driving through the different exhibits, you can hear what is being said about that particular animal.

The trip through the drive through part was about 3 miles.  Animals seen there were rocky mountain sheep, deer, burros, wolves, buffalo, and bears.

The bears were pretty mellow that day, but I understand after a snowstorm, they enjoy frolicking around in it.

Interesting with the different colors of buffalo.

After you go through the drive through part (which you can do as many times as you want), you can park your car and walk into a zoo like setting.  There were lots of displays including bobcat, fox, badger, and these free roaming peacock.

Remember I am always looking for benches with a view. This was into the porcupine exhibit. Can you see them in the tree (middle tree, halfway up).

They had a bird of prey show that was interesting, featuring owls and falcons. Halfway through the show a thunderstorm passed through, making the show be cut short. We ran for cover and waited out the storm's passing.

Again, a very nice adventure, one I would recommend if in Williams, Arizona.

Have you been to such an adventure like this?

That would be really neat to see. Some of the animals up North are much different than down here in the Southern part of the state.

Have you been to the Sonoran Desert Museum yet? It is a must see if you are ever in Tucson and have the time to spend.

The last drive though part we went to was in the Netherlands - it was lovely :) We have a couple of local wildlife parks near us at home too, but they are both walk around. Howletts is a conservation park and has some really awesome species.

I've never been to a drive-through park. I would totally enjoy the experience.
Love the gorgeous captures you shared, Betty.

It would have been a wonderful trip for you. Very nice to have a gadget to hear the sounds near by. The shape of the bench attracted me lot. I have not see different colors of buffalo's...

You've shown us another interesting spot. We have a 8-mile drive through bird sanctuary. There are salty marshes and fresh water ponds. It's open all year around and attracts migrating birds. I love driving through during each of the seasons.

I like the unusual benches you found there. I don't think I've ever been through a drive through a park like that. Although I do think that going through the drive through at McDonalds can sometimes be compared to a zoo!

We have two different drive thru parks in Ohio that we took the kids to. I remember a giraffe licking the car window!

Bearizona. LOL! I love that.

I've never been through a drive through wildlife park. You saw quite a few animals on your trip.

I don't believe I have, at least not in my immediate memory. Looks great!

Bearizona ... gotta love it! It only makes sense. And I'd love to have that cool looking bench in my yard.

I love Arizona, but have never been to Bearizona. Passed it many times. Thanks for the peek.

Thanks for sharing such an interesting trip to a neat exhibit new to me. You sure have had a fun time exploring Arizona!

I enjoyed this very much. You took me on a tour. I am typing this in my car. I wish I was on a bench watching porcupines in Arizona, not in freezing New Jersey!

They have nothing like that around here. We did have peacocks growing up though.

Came here just a few months ago and LOVED it!

Interesting place. I like folks with this type of thinking. Not everyone can go into the backwoods to see wild life. In a case like this the wildlife is brought to us who may never see it in the wild.
Thanks. I think another lifetime is needed to see these places. Love it.

When I live in Washington State they had a similar feature, but provided the ride through the park. It was lovely, and we saw many of the same animals.

Happy April 5th!

What a fun venue. I've been to AZ only once for a grief retreat in Sedona. Breathtakingly beautiful. I look forward to learning more about your state.

This is AMAZING! I'd love to go there sometime, that's so cool! I've only been to Arizona once, and that was when I stood on the four corners! Love your post :)

That is so cool to have the receiver with you while you drove! There is a place here in Kansas like this. I haven't been but Richard went with Harley's school class years ago. He really liked these kinds of places. Those white peacocks are beautiful. I didn't know buffalo came in different colors!!!!

Sounds like a lot of fun and very interesting. I avoid zoos but a wildlife park is another matter. I've only seen the dark buffalo.

Looks like such a lovely way to spend the day. I know I'd really enjoy it and I'd especially love snapping some photos of the animals!

I've been to Williams, but I have never heard about Bearizona - sounds like a great place!! I loved your photos, although my 60-something eyes had to play a bit of "Where's Waldo" to find those porcupines! And, that bench is beautiful. Would you be interested in creating a diversion so I could "borrow" it for my own home? Like maybe letting those mellow bears venture out for a little bit of freedom?!

Love this.

That looks like a fun drive-through zoo! I did not know there were lighter colors of buffalo, interesting! I have been to a drive-through zoo in Oklahoma called the Arbuckle Wilderness, it had ostriches, various species of deer, donkeys, and lots of other animals.

We have an African safari park a few miles from here. Haven't been in a long while, pretty expensive, but we used to go a lot at one time. Matt had a brief spell working there doing part time security. Used to love going there especially when we went behind the scenes to meet the young cheetahs which were being socialised. We were in their cages stroking them like house cats.

The park looks like a fun place to visit and that bench you found is really awesome!

The Brown Recluse (TBR) said...

Oh, goodness, I would LOVE going there! Those peacocks! I've seen pictures of white ones...but never in person. Beautiful!

So, were you instructed to stay in the car? Those bears look as if they could roam free!

"Bearizona" :). It actually kind of reminds me of Jurassic Park. Much better animals, though.

I really enjoyed your blog! Great photos with interesting descriptions. I love animals - wild and otherwise. I didn't know porcupines climbed trees. Fascinating! Found you through the A to Z Challenge. I'll be back! www.dianeweidenbenner.com

Love that final bench, though seeing your lovely photos I'm holding out for letter "G!"

Wendy said...

I did not realize porcupines were tree climbers.
Here in Virginia Kings Dominion is a big theme park that used to have a drive-through safari in its early years. After awhile they added a monorail probably because left to their own devices and vehicle, people can be pretty stupid about wild animals.

Birgit said...

I love that rugged bench. I would like it in my backyard:) I think i see the porcupines halfway up the tree?? We have African Lion Safari which I haven't been to in years. You can drive through and there are no fences! You drive slowly through as the monkeys jump on your car. The monkeys like to break things like lights and radio antennas. My cousin made a mistake by opening the window and a giraffe placed his/her head right into the car! That was a boo-boo

AGCreativeBlog said...

I think the receiver is really god. I wish they did that here. I like how they have kept the shape of the tree on that bench as well.

What a delightful attraction being able to see wild animals like that. I love buffalo and bison. So sweet. The bench is awesome.

Mevely317 said...

Yup, this is on our to-do list. Maybe Tom's worried if we go, I'll be trying to get out of the car to pet the bear!
(I've never been the same since reading "Emory's Gift." lol)

Well, you know I'm an animal lover! I love seeing all those beautiful creatures that God created! I do have to say, though, I would feel much better seeing the black bear behind the fence. I've seen a couple in the wild, and it did NOT make me happy!

Neat sign. That wolf on top really adds to the effect. I could hang out all day.

You do find the prettiest benches! This looks like a fun visit although that bear looked a bit sad behind that fence. White Buffalo? Aren't they sacred? White peacocks? Aren't they cool! Thanks for sharing your adventure!

We took the kids to a drive-through African safari park in Ohio. Some crazed camel kicked the bumper of the van and left a dent.

I would love - love - love to see that.

Wow. How fun.

This reminds me of something I saw on PBS. The show was called "Things That Aren't Here Anymore". (The host of the show has since passed, so he's not here anymore, either.)

There was a segment on a drive through wild animal park in SoCal. A bit before my time. And there wasn't much in the way of enclosures, so not all that safe, really.

Ann Bennett said...

I've seen all those animals and some around my house. I would still love visiting. My favorite would have been the Bird of Prey Show. My mother and grandmother are big bird lovers and I guess it is in the genes.

Coffee Lady said...

Wow I must put this on my bucket list of places to see. Thanks

Love your post! I've always wanted to do one of those wildlife park self drive through tours. Cool pics, and it's cool that you can go through as many times as you want. I've never heard of that being allowed.
