Quails and Quiz

A/Z these birds are special to me

Q - Quails

I first got "introduced" to quails when we lived in one part of Southern California four years ago (Murrieta, close to Temecula). From the window where my work computer was set up, I could look in the back yard and would see road runners, bunnies, a snake (wasn't happy about that), coyotes at times, and quail. The quail were my favorite and I loved when we had two families of quail babies to watch at times.

Then we moved to a different part of Southern California before we moved here to Arizona and I didn't see quail for four years. Missed them.  Imagine my happiness when one time when walking through our housing development and I saw quail.  They were always at other parts of the housing development, but then started showing up closer to where I live.  One morning I was in the kitchen throwing food in the crock pot for dinner and movement caught my eye outside. I looked out and to my amazement four quail were on our patio eating the leftover food from the bird feeders.  I quickly grabbed the camera and were able to catch a few pictures of them.

Q - Quiz

Thought I would throw in a few questions to see if you have been learning more about me through A/Z.

True or False:

1.  I live in Arizona.

2.  I work at home.

3.  I'm married to a musician.

4.  I used to have a corgi named Koda.

If you answered true to all of them, you are correct!

Do you have quail where you live?

How did you do on the quiz?

Beautiful birds, but no, we don't have Quail here.

I got your quiz! Surprised myself.

I have not seen quail in years. We used to see them occasionally and hear them "Bob White" often.

I got 100% on the quiz!

What sweet birds. No quails here. But after seeing yours, wish there were.

Oh how neat! I have never seen quail before.

Lots of people raise quail here. We even thought about it, but we have enough animals on our homestead. :)

I aced the quiz :)
How cool that you have quail. I’ve never seen one up close and personal.

I don't recall ever seeing quail before. Enjoy your day.

I'm sure you will be seeing more of those quail now that they have found your bird feeder. I haven't seen any around here, but I'm pretty sure they do exist here in Ohio somewhere. I'll have to check it out now and see if memory serves me right. Hard to believe you are already on the letter Q.

No quail here in Virginia that I know of. Got 100 on the quiz.

Stephanie Faris said...

I knew all of those--although I briefly forgot you work from home, even though I think it's the thing you've mentioned most recently, I think? You and I have that in common.

Haven't seen quail here. Bet they are fun to watch though. That was the easiest quiz ever lol

Cindi said...

Yay..I passed the quiz! lol

We haven't seem quail in our part of FL, but I would not rule them out.
the little feather tops make them so adorable.

There were quail when I was young and lived near a meadow. Now in the woods I don't see them. I didn't know they were quail for a long time. We called them Bob Whites, for their call.

We have Quail around - but not in the suburbs. We used to have wild Turkey and Ring-necked pheasants here - until they destroyed the country side building too many houses and strip malls.

I got all the questions right. :)

Natasha Duncan-Drake said...

We do not have quail around here - they are more south west than south east I think. We have lots of pheasants as our game bird :).

Quails come here all the time too. I watch them from my window when I'm at my desk. :)

Passed!!!

We have quails here too. I knew all the answers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I passed!! ♥

We have quail in Alabama...and lost of hunters who like to kill them. Kinda heartbreaking...though they do eat them, not killing just for sport, but it hurts my heart, just the same (like it does for deer).

I think Quails are so pretty. We do have them here but I don't see them very often.
Yes! I got all the questions correct. :)

Birgit said...

The quail look so cute actually-nope no quail where I live-which is in the city. I got 100% :)

Linda said...

Maybe the quails heard about the A-Z and wanted to help you out with "q" letter. Quiz way too easy, supposed to be a challenge (just kidding). Glad for the happy reunion. No quails but I'll run for my camera for bunnies here.

Ruth said...

I got them all.
We have quail here. Not as many as there was years ago. A few years ago, I actually saw one walking around the yard. We scared it away because at the time, we had many outdoor cats and we didn't want it getting eaten.

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

I got all the questions right. No quail come into my back yard. Skunks, deer, rabbits, squirrels, hawk and even a bald eagle now and then.

Lynn Proctor said...

Hmmm not sure I have seen quails-got all answers correct Betty :)

Linda said...

YES! 100% correct on your Quiz for Q day. We have Quail which we call Partridge or Grouse. There is a hunting season in the fall. Sometimes when I go for a walk in the woods one will fly up from behind a down tree or from a pile of brush. Needless to say it is startling.

Dare I say that quails and their eggs are delicious? No? OK then I didn't!

They are actually a lot smaller than grouse and partridge and all the better for it!

Secret Agent Woman said...

I got them all right! And yes, Bobwhite quail are the state game bird in TN.

Danielle L Zecher said...

I got them all right! :-)

I honestly don't know if we have quail here. We don't put out bird feeders since it seems cruel to attract them to our yard with the dogs and cats, so we don't see a lot of birds.

Jay Noel said...

Woo hoo! 100% I'm awesome!

I live in Missouri, and they hunt quails out here. Not me, but it's a big thing in many parts of the state.

I'm afraid the only quail I've ever seen was on a plate. ;P They look like really cute birds when they're alive.

Oh, how fun! It's nice to have some birds to watch.

Oh my gosh. We both posted about quail for the challenge. I love to watch them too. We have LOTS where I live and we feed them and always have pans of water out for all the critters. The babies are so adorable and I like the sound the quails make. I can sit outside on my patio and lisen to them around sunset calling all the family together. I will miss that if we move.

I've been to Murietta and Temecula lots of times when living in CA.

I'm pretty sure there are quail in Illinois ... but don't hold me to it!

I missed #3...I guess my memory isn't a good as I thought! Now I'm not sure if we have quail here...I'm pretty sure we do but now I'll have to ask hubby to be positive. I'm sounding sort of old and forgetful with this comment! Have a good day!

We see Quail from time to time along with the other animals you listed. However we had a new visitor last night....a rat! I thought Skye was trying to chase the little bunny out that has been driving her crazy for about a month now and a rat ran up the side of the house. OMG!! I got your questions right :)

Jo said...

We had lots of Bobwhite in North Carolina and they are of the quail family. To me though, it's a bird I think of as food not that I have every actually eaten one myself.

J E Oneil said...

I've never seen a quail (that I know of). How cool that you were able to catch a photo. And yes, I answered true to everything :)

susie said...

I won!!!

It took me five minutes to scroll down to say that!

:)

Cute little things. Definitely preferable to coyotes and snakes!

Stephen Tremp said...

I don;t think we have quail. We have lots of hawks that are fun to watch.

Megan Whitson Lee said...

They are beautiful! And quail eggs are delicious!

jack69 said...

I got them all, with the yes. Now the quail. I haven't seen a quail in years. Howqever there are lots around in the country, we just don't see too many in town. I remember as a kid walking thru a field and scaring upa covy and it scared me. They rose with a loud sound of wings flopping. My favorite is the 'bob-white' call.

Mevely317 said...

Adorable, they are! I think it's neat how they don't feel threatened and come close.
I don't think we've any quail nearby ... just the bullies (black birds) and darn pigeons who intimidate anything smaller than themselves.

PS - Aced your quiz! :)

We had quails in Illinois. My brothers like to "bag" a few. I don't know why, since it would take about 20 to make a meal for two boys.

Pretty little birds. I hated my brothers at that time.

Sandra Almazan said...

No quail in Illinois that I know of.

Paula Kaye said...

I got 100% on the quiz too! But I am happy to still be learning about you. I just said to my brother this week as we watched the birds in my backyard....we never see quails. There are lots in Kansas but I never have them in my backyard

SweetMarie said...

100%! :) the quail are so cute!

Veronica Lee said...

My answers are all correct! Love getting to know more about you, Betty.

Fun quiz! :)

I love to bird watch and am able to spot a lot of birds from my porch or kitchen windows. Lots of different birds, but no quails. Glad that you have them at your new home!
