Feeder

A-Z, a pasttime enjoyed by me :)

F - Feeder

We put up bird feeders shortly after we moved here. I always enjoy watching birds.  Took a couple days for the birds to come and feed from them, but eventually they must have realized we were safe and not out to harm them and they have been steadily eating a little more each day.

Little messy eaters they are (picture below is the scattered seed they drop from the feeder as they eat), but it is interesting to see that at the end of the day right before dark little birds come and eat off the patio what the other birds left behind.

Can you see the bird on the feeder? I had to take the picture from inside the window because if I get too close they fly away.

Are you a bird watcher?

Yes, for a long time.

I love bird watching! In fact, I see humming birds fluttering just as near as my window daily from 11 am to 1 pm. When I am talking to my mum, they flutter so fast that I nearly miss every time I want to take a shot. This made me stir up some nectar for them..

I haven't put any feeders up yet but am hoping to get some organised this year. I can hear plenty of birds but don't see many in my garden at the moment. Hopefully, that will all change when the feeders are in place.

How sweet that you put up the bird feeders for your neighborhood birds. Birds are wonderful to watch. They bring much joy. ENJOY! I used to have feeders years ago but the squirrels always knocked them down and ate all the seed.

Birds won't come near our place because of the dogs, but I like them!

I feed the birds, too. And the squirrels. And the chipmunks. And the rabbits...and on and on... I love when all these critters stop by and visit and the backyard is full of excitement.

I am with Plowing Through Life! I feed all the wildlife outside my window, even the deer. I love watching birds and trying to identify them.

We only have one bird nutty enough to try our garden :) We used to have feeders up, but we now have two Savannah cats and our garden is fenced to keep them in. They are really, really fast and we didn't think it would be fair to temp birds in to be lunch.

Like you I love to watch the birds and have a feeder outside that I can see through the window too. There have been days that all I have to do is move the curtain and they'll fly away. Glad you could catch a picture of the birds at yours. I try but rarely do.

Oh yes, I have feeders in our yard. I like watching the different kinds of birds and taking their pictures. I have a camera with a good telephoto lens so that I am able to capture some good shots from inside my window.
Of course now, the chipmunk has come out of hiding and the little bugger eats up all of the seed in one of the feeders. I’ll have to move it away from the trees.

We have two bird tables in our garden which we can watch from our lounge. We have big birds like jackdaws and magpies and well as the smaller ones, sparrows, blackbirds, robins, and we even have one sweet little wren. The magpies and jackdaws are fun to watch as they squabble, but the little robin red breast keep even the big birds in line :)

Yes, we've always had feeders, but it's a battle with the squirrels!

We have woods out back and love to watch birds and squirrels through binoculars! When I have time! Have a good day!

I generally feed them in the winter. Once spring arrives, they don't bother coming to the feeder. There are too many tasty worms and gardens to nibble on. :)

I'm not really a bird watcher; we can't have feeders in the yard because of the cats and dogs. I do love to see th birds at the zoo though.

Joanne Noragon said...

I put them up to show my granddaughters the fun of watching and to teach them some responsibility toward keeping them filled. In the winter I often must leave a note on the door to fill the feeders when they come home fro school, but perhaps I'm making a headway.

I enjoy our bird visitors very much! I'm sure you will have some beautiful visitors. :)

haha they are a messy bunch indeed. Used to have tons of birds growing up, now just the odd crow or pigeon around my place.

I love attracting the finches and titmouse -- they're my favorites.

I love watching birds! We have a few feeders up, and have quite a few different types of birds that come. I like the juncos and the goldfinches the best, and we do tend to attract a lot of squirrels!

My mom just put out her hummingbird feeder. So far no hummingbirds!

I just bought a bird feeder for my new house. I plan to get more. :)

I feed the birds water. Seed brought indoor critters.

I was admiring the desert...guess you don't have to cut the grass there!

We have a tons of squirrels thus why I do not have a feeder for the birds. We do have a wide variety to watch. We set up a birdhouse, every so often we get lookie lous, but no home owner. We must be bad landlords with no feeder..lol

It is the simple joys that make life so great like watching birds. We have a birdfeeder also. They are messy for sure-we have a pile of seeds but they come and pick at them to so do the local squirrels

I see the bird feeder! That is very sweet of you. I would have a feeder but Mark doesn't care for them. We had a hummingbird feeder once. I love watching the birds when we our at Mammoth Lakes in the mountains.

We have blue jays, cardinal, gold finches, hummingbirds and even an occasional hawk around our property. We don't put up feeders because it attracts chipmunks and squirrels.

We are messy little eaters aren't we? I love to bird watch. The kiddos and I keep a book near the window, whenever we spy a new bird we check it off. So fun to see all the different types that show up at our feeders.

I have three feeders in my backyard right now. Soon I will put up the Oriole feeders and the hummingbird feeders. We have a lot dove here in Kansas and they are the ground feeders so they eat up the mess the others make!

For sure. We have a hummingbird feeder. Those are some of the collest looking birds.

We have them, too, Betty. Hubby is so faithful to fill up the feeder so I can enjoy them from my kitchen window as I cook. Love them!

When we lived in North Carolina we had a big back yard and we had all kinds of feeders and nesting boxes. We would spend hours on our back deck watching the birds. We believe if you spend enough time they get to know you and don't fly off when you come outside.

Jerralea said...

We've never had any feeders. I've thought I would like to have a hummingbird feeder but I hear they make you too busy with making up the sugar water.

I love my backyard birds! Especially the scrappy little hummingbirds.

Megan Whitson Lee said...

Well, I love birds--as I do all animals. But I can't really put up a feeder, as I'm too worried about my greys catching one (yeah, they're THAT fast). Since I've had the dogs there have been NO birds in our yard...BUT--I love bats, and I've been thinking about putting up a bathouse since the dogs aren't out at night!

Whenever I put out bird food, the squirrels always get to it before the birds do!

Sometimes I'm a bird watcher. Love it when the hummingbirds come around. Oh, and come to think of it, I get to see the ducks all the time (we have a sort of pond steps from the house, and ducks live there).

I watch the Hummers. I now plan to get a large bird feeder because it is a fun thing and does good also.

My mom has a bird feeder outside her sunroom. My dog was staring out at all the birds, fascinated. We decided we need a bird feeder outside our window in the sunroom of our new house to give her entertainment!

We have had pretty good luck with bird feeders. We had to take ours down when we lived in the apartment cause it was not approved but now we have our own house and yard we are free to do what we want. The birds really enjoy our grape vines when they bear fruit.

I see you are one of Stephen's Troops - great team to be on.

Yep, fun to watch a variety of birds both here and at my mom's. Yet to see a squirrel proof feeder unless hung from wire on tall tree limb! Birds also need water, which several neighbors provide.

I love listening to them in the mornings...especially now in spring time. Waking up to the light and chirping is divine.

I'm not very familiar with birds, but I like watching birds and wonder what they are, while taking a walk along the river near my house.

I love to watch birds - some years we do and some we don't. So out of your back window - what is the landscape consist of?

Susan Kane said...

I love seeing the different types and songs. Don't know what bird they are, but it is so lovely.

When our cat was young we had to take down the feeder because she would wait and use it like a cat cafeteria! Now she's too old to care so this winter we put one up and I took many pics of the birds coming to feed. I enjoy watching them. Today a mourning dove came but it was so big it kept tipping the feeder! Once the weather is nice I'll take it down because they can find tons of food without it. I hope you enjoy all the ones that visit!

I’ve never tried hanging a bird feeder!
… but yes, it’s sure entertaining to watch them hopping about the yard. Drives our dogs nuts! J

The only ‘down’ side of suburban living is discovering the wee bodies of those babies who’d fallen from their nests in our cypress trees. The rational side of me realizes “that’s just life”, but it’s awfully difficult to witness.

My son and I keep our feeder full. We have a good time watching the birds and counting how many different species we see. The territorial behaviors can be fascinating too!

Thanks to Ole Boy, we have lots of birds in our yard. He's been feeding them since we moved in some 18 years ago.

You've got a really pretty view! And that sky is gorgeous!

The only birds that visit are pigeons and they are a nuisance. They leave their droppings everywhere!

We have several bird feeders are a few hummingbird feeders in summer and I do like to watch them. I just had to get several new feeders because of the bad bad squirrels, they tore them up.
