Church

A/Z, we are learning about me

C - Church

I like to go to church, go pretty much weekly.  I think we only missed one Sunday in the past few years and that was because it was the week between Christmas and New Year's and the church we were going to at the time didn't have a service that weekend, we tried to find another one, got there to go to church, but they were only doing one service and we had gone earlier than the service.  I like going to learn more about God and fellowship with other people.  I also like serving in various capacities.

Currently we are going to Cornerstone Church (this is a picture of their bulletin).  It meets at the local college in the performing arts center.  They have to set up everything, similar to the last 2 churches we went to, but at least they don't have to set up the chairs as the chairs are already in the auditorium, theater style.

Hubby is part of the worship team.  I haven't gotten into any service opportunity yet, still waiting to see how often he'll play on the worship team. I'll either do nursery or children's ministry or greeting.

This was the first church in the last eight years that Koda didn't have a part in playing with us finding it. The previous three churches we went to we found through walking Koda and talking with people because they would admire how cute he was and then the conversation would eventually turn to church and then we would find out churches that way.

We found this church through word of mouth with people hubby works with.

Right now the church is in transition as the senior pastor is leaving, called by God for a different path than being a senior pastor.  Instead of a question asked at the end of today's blog, I'm just going to request those of you that pray, if you would just say a prayer for the search team looking for a new pastor for the church, that they will be led to the one God wants to pastor this church.  A simple few word prayer, God will know, God will hear, God will answer according to his perfect will, timing, and wisdom.  (Thank you).

Thanks everyone for your comments during the challenge :) I treasure each and every one of them.

Will pray for your church. I used to be in the campus ministry back in College. And when I graduated, moved to a new church near my then apartment, there I joined the singles ministry and also the Glorious Hope Recovery program. Now, however, I've moved to a new apartment and in search to find a new home church.

It's a blessing to find a church you like and I will pray that a new pastor is found quickly. We went through a transition period several years back and had an interim pastor until a new one could be found. We were blessed in the fact that both he and the new pastor are wonderful men. We all hated to see one leave though to make room for the other. Our church has been around since the 1800's and has quite a history too. I've been going there about 50 years now. It is like home for me for sure.

I'm glad you can find comfort in Church. While I don't go myself I do believe in a higher power. There has to be something, right? Or what's the point of it all.

I sometimes listen to my Bible app when I'm walking, but then, because I put in some miles often forget all the parts I had questions about when I get home, so then often re-read sections of the passage to try and better understand. I sometimes find it hits and sometimes it just doesn't. And sometimes I feel like it's the same thing over and over, but with different words. Sometimes I get lost in the details, but there's something very peaceful about listening and walking and thinking. I can get so distracted I have to stop and realize how far I've gone, because I have to be able to make it back, lol. I don't go to church often, but am glad you've found a place that fits so well into your life and will pray for a good fit for your new pastor.

I knew you and I had a lot in common, Betty, because my church is named Cornerstone, too. Different state, of course.

Father, please guide the search team at Betty's church to find the man You want to lead the church. May there be unity in their decision. May there be blessing and vision found at Cornerstone. In Jesus name, Amen.

I've had a complex relationship with church, but my husband really loves going so I'm keeping an open mind. Sounds like you have a really great one.

Our senior pastor has just left as well. I don't know that the church we currently are at is the one I will call my forever church. But it has an excellent kids program so it is ours for now.

I used to be grateful for the connectional system of the Methodist Church for saving us the headache and squabbling many churches face in searching for a minister. Ours are simply assigned. However, I now see a flaw in the system. Ours is a BIG church with lots of money which means the higher the salary, the more senior the pastor, and the older the pastor the closer to retirement, and the closer to retirement the more likely he's going to coast. That's a sure way to lose members. Prayers heading your way -- Happy Easter!

You seem extremely open-minded about other people's beliefs or non-beliefs. I see a lot of your comments.

It's a good way to be!!

Good luck with your Church.

What a wonderful thing, Betty! There are 3 churches within walking distance of us (but along country roads with no shoulders or sidewalks), a Church of Christ, a Church of God and a Mennonite Church. Hubby's paternal grandfather's family went to the Church of Christ, but they kind of stopped going after that. FIL calls himself an atheist, but is his one of the most 'Christian' men I know.

Our church just went through a two year process of finding a new senior pastor. The founding pastor retired after nearly 40 years. The committee found who they feel is God's man for the job, but heartbreakingly, people are unhappy and some are leaving. I suppose it is to be expected. Part of the process, I suppose, but I don't like it.

I'll pray for Cornerstone. I know God has a plan and just the right person. The whole process takes lots of patience...waiting on the Lord hurt sometimes lol

Church is not the center of many lives, no condemnation, just that it has always been sort of a anchor for us. Since the loss of my hearing, I am just THERE.
I just know you are good with Kids, and I know you fit like a glove in the kids ministy, it was always my favorite.
Prayers also.

Hey Betty. Thank you for visiting me today. I sat down on your bench, said a prayer for your pastor, you, and your family; read all of your A-Z posts; had a lovely time (smile).

I'm joining your bench sitters, because I too, love a nice bench.

Happy Easter or Passover, whichever you prefer to celebrate (smile).

Hi Betty,

Unfortunately, Tom and I’ve yet to find a church home. When he grew so sick a couple years back, the commute wasn’t practical; then, their philosophies grew so liberal we weren’t comfortable.

Our neighbors keep inviting us to accompany them to their parish, but it’s not a good fit.

I’ll be honored to pray – both for your departing pastor and members of the selection committee. Theirs is not an easy process!

Transitions can be difficult. My prayers are for your church to have a short one and for the one who God calls for you be evident to your congregation.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and for your kind words of sympathy. Like Koda, Harriet would open up conversations with strangers for us! Funny that Koda helped you find your church homes previously. I do pray your church finds someone well suited for this position. I believe in the power of prayer.

My prayers that your church finds a good pastor.. they are so critical to a church's well being. My parent's church is also searching for one too.

Love your church's mission/purpose. I used to go to a church named Cornerstone, too. Prayers spoken and I'm looking forward to hearing when your new pastor arrives. Sometimes the in-between times can be very good, as your church waits expectantly. I always enjoyed the various speakers who would come to share and encourage during that season.

It is Sunday afternoon. I am actually sitting down and catching up on older blog reading for a few minutes. This morning in church we sang the song, "Cornerstone." I praise the Lord that he is my "Cornerstone."
