that many?

Playing along with Cate over at Show My Face for 6 Word Saturday (haven't played in ages).

Here's my 6 words.

How many knives do we need?

A lot of you know we just moved.  I was unpacking the kitchen stuff and kept unpacking knives after knives after knives.  I didn't realize we had so many of them.  I think its because they were in three different drawers where we used to live and the movers packed them all together.  I have them in one drawer now so they are all self contained.

I'm thinking a decluttering of them is going to be happening real soon.  We honestly don't need these many, nor have we even used some of them in the four years previous to this last move.

Do you seem to have an overabundance of a particular kitchen gadget or utensil?

Enjoy the weekend!

Who'll be the first to make a cutting remark?

Wow, no one can say you can't cut the mustard. Sure a cut above the rest with that many knives lol

Those wood-handled affairs sure look familiar. :)

I bought Tom a nice set of culinary knives a few years ago, allowing us to get rid of a crazy accumulation.
... But you'll never persuade me to get rid of my 3 little "Ginzu" (sp?) steak knives. Remember those infomercials?

PS - Love your new header of the Courthouse!

The bench looks a bit more inviting now! The frost one - just made me want to go inside!

You have a lot of knives! I have about 100 spoons. I get hand me downs - and seems like I have a dozen sets. They are perfectly good - hate to throw them away, but really, who's going to by a set of old, used spoons of no great value?

Maybe I can leave them at a cafeteria somewhere...

A pretty colorful spectacle from that bench! Looks like maybe a "Cutco" knife handle, definite keeper. Coffee mugs and plastic cups from sport events, that's what we needed to cut back on.

Chilly bench, sharp knives :)

Moving usually means getting rid of things, even after it has already happened.

For me it's large-bowled soup spoons. Of course, I'd have fewer of them if I could stop myself from swiping one every time I popped in for a bowl of chilli at my favorite lunch spot...

Yeah, we do seem to collect more of some items. OUrs? CUPS/Mugs. Never use over 6 at a time but must have 20 (Plus a hundred in storage!) smile.

Love the Bench View!

We have to laugh at ourselves, don't we Betty!

I would ask "How many files do I need?" I have the four drawer metal file. I have a rolling one. I have one of those new drawer files. There is a file to the right on the desk.

Then there are papers to be filed! Better get back to work because I have to move also. Taking my clues from you!

I found 2 boxes new (12/box) steak knives. Hubby was a restaurant supplier. I thought we "donated' this prior to the FL. I donated this last moved. Had them for 8 years....lol

Funny. My sister and BIL, the cooks, looked at our knife drawer one day, literally pitched every one as useless and went to Lehman Brothers for new knives. I rescued my "apple knife" as nothing they bought gave me the leverage to get through a big apple, which is my lunch. I often have made a scene and snatched my apple knife from BIL, who responds "Well, I don't remember..." Yea, right, sorry you cut off you nose to spite your face, but leave my apple knife alone.

That is a lot of knives. My mom used to be superstitious about giving knives away. So she just threw them away when she didn't want it anymore. I have a billion spoons

You could definitely offload some of those! I keep thinking that I have too many dishes, until I have a big dinner party. :) What tends to happen to me is that I lack something for the kitchen, mention it, then get four of that thing for Christmas.

You have alot of knives, indeed. We inherited quite a few when my husbands aunt and parents died. My six words today are... lounging in jammies, sick, fever, strep.

I de-cluttered every 3 years or so. That said the next thing to go is the coffee mugs... I don't even drink coffee. :)

My six words???

Please Don't Let Another Fish Die.

(which will make more sense after you read at my place)

Yikes. Yeah, time to downsize those a bit. I know the feeling, though. I just moved myself, and going through all the stuff that you haven't looked at in years...

I could use a few knives. Are any of them really sharp? If so, I'l take them.

Great post.

That's a cute game to play. Using 6 words. I have an over abundance of knives too, but I like to use certain ones for certain things. I don't think I'd want to part with any of them.

I need to sort through our kitchen utensils as well!! This is a lot of knives for sure. I hope you guys are close to be settling in by now.

That is a lot of knives. And I'm just as guilty with that, too. This reminds me that I should de-clutter my kitchen.

Cups! I go through phases with cups. When I worked in an office, I had reusable coffee cups to take to work. When I started working from home, I bought a bunch of tumblers to drink from. So now I have this assortment of coffee cups and tumblers in addition to our mugs and glasses...and I still tend to go through phases, so I just keep collecting them. I think I need an intervention!

That is too funny Betty! It is amazing what you find when you move!

I love word challenges like writing a whole story in a few words. :)

Enjoy the weekend too, Betty.

I'm in love with kitchen tools.

Those 6 words really sum up my culinary life. Do I have as many knives as you? No, but close. I am all about good kitchen tools and I like to have at least 2 of each one I like.

I have issues.

Enjoy your nest building in your new home!

I donated so much stuff before we moved from Florida. :) so now I don't have too much, it's just right. :)

My six words - The first cut is the deepest

I have an aunt who has only a cleaver in the kitchen - she uses it for everything - chopping, cutting, paring, carving, slicing and even as a mallet!

Were you in a show where your hubby threw knives at you while you spun around on a big wheel? Those are a whole lotta knives:) I see a few I have too. I can't think of what I have too much of in the kitchen dept. There is always room to let things go though

Kat said...

Oooo! I like your header pic! You are finding some nice benches in your new city!

That is a lot of knives! We always seem to have a lack of knives over here. Hmmm... ;)

Gotta love a good knife Betty. I have lots of everything gadgets, cups.

I have to admit to having multiple sets of dishes, pasta dishes, everyday dishes, Christmas china, china china it really is out of control and they are all sets of 16.

That is A LOT of knives. I wouldn't want to make anybody mad in that house LOL!!

When my husband and I got married, we ended up with an abundance of cleaners. Apparently, every time he needed one, he just bought another container instead of checking to see what he already had. :-)

Otherwise, what we have in great abundance are mugs. I'd start leaving them around for people, except it sounds like too many folks already have the same dilemma. I do have an artist acquaintance who reuses old dishes to make crafts. Maybe one day the mugs can find good homes. :-)

That is a lot of knives! I guess when we put all of the items of a certain kind together we can really tell how many we have. When I moved I was surprises by the number of coffee mugs I had. :)
