law

A to Z (where we walk Koda)

L - Law

It is a law to have a dog on a leash (and Koda is always on a leash).  Sadly there are some people who don't see the signs or choose to ignore the signs and have their dog off leash, and we all know how not friendly Koda is towards other dogs, perhaps its because he's been attacked 3 times by other dogs, so we are always on the watch looking for loose dogs who might want to come over to see Koda.  You can see the arm of hubby with the walking stick he carries, just in case he has to use it (to put between a dog and Koda) should a dog approach off leash.  (Biggest pet peeve of mine is a dog off leash in an area where it is designated to be on leash). (Followed by an owner who assumes my dog wants to socialize with their dog and allows their dog to get too close to Koda).

Does your city have a leash law?

My pet peeve is people who walk their dogs in our neighborhood and assume it is okay for them to poop in our yard and then they keep on walking. I want to go out and yell at them to come back and clean it up. But in this day and age it just isn't a wise thing to do.

I'm not sure if we have a leash law here but I rarely see any dogs running free except at the nearby parks. I grew up in a beach town and there were plenty of dog walkers there; it's more likely the boardwalk/beach area had a leash law but I saw a lot of dogs roaming leashless to catch a frisbee or something.

Here's hoping that the dog walkers at your park abide by the law so Koda doesn't get upset or attacked :/

Sorry, but I wouldn't know, but I am going to guess yes.

I do see some people let their dogs lose though, but usually just around their house. It's probably illegal.

I think most cities around us have leash laws but there are still dogs running around at times. Our Heidi learned how to undo the latch on our gate. When we forgot to put the lock on, she would open the gate and get out. We would find her at our front door when we got home from school. The neighbors said she never left our yard but we did not want her out foot loose and fancy free. I think dogs should be on a leash.

Yes we have leash laws too. But there is always someone that lets theirs run loose or the dogs escape and run. I've always thought that people that have pets should be responsible for them and sadly many are not and we have shelters full of abused or lost dogs. Your hubby has a great idea to carry a walking stick with him.

Yes, we have leash laws. I am glad because many dogs scare me.

We have it, but people are bad about ignoring it. It makes me crazy when people let their dogs out in public off-leash.

Most areas around here have a leash "law" - which much like many other so-called laws is rarely if ever enforced and heavily ignored (and thus pointless) like those pertaining to bicyclists, who are supposed to obey traffic laws (but run stop signs, go down the wrong side of the road, etc...)

On the one day in the decade they enforce it - there will be lots of screaming -

The city has a leash law, the county does not...although to be honest, they may have changed that a while back...but since my two small ones are never outside the fence or my house, and the big one, if she ever gets out, takes one quick run about the 'hood and wants back in. How's that for a run-on sentence?

We do have a leash law. And I do agree with it.
I'm off to look for Koda. :)

Except for a few off-leash dog parks, they are suppose to. Many parks even have poop bag dispenser if one forgets. That's my pet peeve, just last week, stepping in what should have been picked up in park!

Yes, our city have a leash law, and most people follow it. But people sometimes let their dogs loose in the forest outside town, which can be å hazzle for hikers and skiers

Yes, it does - but people are notoriously lax about it. It's one of the (sad) reasons that we have so many dogs that get lost up in the mountains. Makes me mad. We also recently had some sort of brouhaha over a dog that went after another dog. A problem that could have been averted if everyone obeyed the leash law.

'Nuff said.

Hi Betty - I'm not exactly sure what the dog-rules are .. certainly out in the country we use common sense - but they're not my dogs.

Enjoy Koda though .. cheers Hilary

There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

We have it too, and it should be abided by. No matter how good a dog is or friendly, another dog may not be the same.

We have a leash law, but I don't think it's as strictly enforced as it should be. I could go off on quite a tirade, but I'll just say I agree with you, and it's a BIG pet peeve of mine for an off-leash dog to approach my dogs.

I am a dog owner and dog lover. I abide by these rules because you never know how dogs will be with other dogs and people should understand this. I keep my dog always on the leash. I pick up his poop and hate it when others don't and leave that on my lawn. I also don't go to doggie parks because I don't know how all the dogs are and am scared that my dog may catch something(happened to a friend of mine who had to bring her dog to the vet)

We have a leash law even in our neighborhood and wild dogs somehow make it this way. The biggest problem seems to be people whose dogs keep escaping from the backyard prison they've created. One elderly woman was walking her dog with a big metal bat one night--I almost laughed out loud at the sight because she looked like she was ready to really hit something!

I think there are a bunch of outlaws in this town. What's a law? I am very careful when I ride my bike since dogs tend to dislike cyclists, and they are often off their leashes.

I don't blame Koda for having an attitude.

Have a nice day!

I agree, dogs should be on a leash! I am a rule follower. I don't know why people think it is okay to not follow the rules.

Not owning a dog, I have no idea if there's a leash law in our town. But, I do see most dogs on leashes when they're out walking with their humans. Usually, if a dog is loose around here, it's lost or run excitedly away from being cooped in too long.

We have a leash law here. Disco is extremely unfriendly to dogs and people alike! We need him and the others to be on a leash.

I believe we do, and it's rare that I see a loose dog running around.

We rarely have Ziggy on a leash. Last time was camping. He has the freedom to run in our fenced backyard.

We do have a leash law and Patches is always on one for her safety. It's rare to see an unleashed dog.

I'm not sure, Betty! Like 'helicopter moms' I tend to be over-protective of our pups and rarely take them out in public.

Great idea, carrying that walking stick. I love (most) dogs in general, but have a big-time fear of unknown, testosterone-fueled canines. My left leg still bears ugly scars from a dog attack years ago.

I don't know if there's a leash law. There should be if there isn't. Lots of dog walkers out, especially in the evening. Occasionally we can hear the tell-tale scuffle between two antagonistic dogs.

I live in a very small rural town, so I doubt there is a leash law.

I don't blame you for being upset, though. We all need to obey the laws. There is a reason for them.

I still think you are blessed to be able to walk Koda in such a beautiful place.

We will have to find out about leash laws in our area. We are hoping to get a dog on Friday! We're adopting her from the Animal Shelter.

My pet peeve is owners who let their dogs roam free along the bush tracks where we run. The dogs always get excited when we run past and it doesn't feel safe. Our dog will be running with us on the end of her leash!

I have enjoyed meeting Koda and reading your posts!

Totally agree! When I had Andy (corgi too), we had to only walk him at certain hours. He was a rescue and did not like children or other dogs. We did everything to socialize him, but nope, didn't happen. So we went for walks at times less frequented by humans, but it never failed that someone had their dog off a leash. Little did they know I had a really big dog in Andy. (We called him a mutant corgi because he could be so bad). Anyway, once was enough for most regular dog owners. When they saw us coming, they learned to get the dog on a leash.

I too hate when dog owners let their dog get too close to my dog. Like people, they deserve a personal space.

It's just rude for any law that people think are just suggestions or worse that they are above the law... would be nice if everyone followed the rules... like Koda... :)

I remember one man in our neighborhood had and aggressive dog, which he like to let run around. One time as a kid I was walking by and his dog was snarling at me, and I asked him to get his dog. He just ignored me, and that really made me feel bad. I might not have been attacked by an aggressive dog, but I have had several occasions where I had to turn around and walk another way because of it. I never liked how some people, often the people who let their dogs run loose, were the ones who taught their dogs to be aggressive.

I understand the frustration of unleashed pets, ESPECIALLY where it is specifically mentioned.
Love ya!

Years ago my beagle and I were attacked by a stray dog so I understand the need for leash laws. Like the walking stick.

We have leash laws here too but some people don't abide by them. I have heard some of them say that its ok that they don't have a leash since their dog is well behaved. I don't believe the law is enforced unless someone gets bit or something like that.
