my gosh

This is my first post for 2014 and it is 10 days into the new year! Already this year is flying by and it just started.

Haven't posted because have nothing to say, which I guess could be a good thing.

Couldn't write about how warm it was last Sunday (76 degrees, but whose counting) when the majority of you were in the deep freeze or getting prepared for the deep freeze.

Wrote a post about my frustrations about my job, but decided not to post it.  Let it suffice to say that on my agenda in this new year is to find a new job or maybe start training for a new career.

Looking forward to the playoff game come Sunday with the Chargers and the Broncos.  Lots of excitement about it here and hubby might even wear one of his dad's bolos to church come Sunday. I heard on one of the radio stations that some girl posted on her FB page that if the Chargers win, she's going to streak through her neighborhood after the game (everyone remember what streaking is?) What some fans will do.  I'll be content keeping my clothes on and enjoying the game; hoping it is a good fair game and no one gets hurt.

I think I'm finally going to have to retire my Bible I've been using since 2001.  Its literally falling apart.  I'll keep it, of course, but I think when I finish the current study I'm doing on the prophets of the Old Testament, I'll get a new one and then start reading through it again, probably marking it up like I did this one.  Always amazes me to learn new things from the Bible even though I've read it many times before.

The cats I wrote about a few weeks ago are still invading the back yard.  Haven't seen the possum in a bit, I'm thinking the cats chased it away.  There are definitely 3 gray kitties, yet one of them is more braver than the others. so in total, I think there are 3 gray kittens, 2 older gray cats, 1 white kitten, 1 older kitten, and 2 older gray kitties.  I fear flea season is going to be awful come summer with them around, but I don't know a safe way to get them to stay out of our yard. Any suggestions?

So that's the start of my new year so far.  How is your new year going?

Please visit squirrel queen, Judy. She's an animal lover with a lot of knowledge regarding stray kitties. You can see her link on my page or I'll send it to you. :)

The BIG game sounds pretty exciting. ENJOY!

We have always had loose neighborhood cats in our yard. They are very annoying . When I had dogs I had to keep flea meds on them or we would get fleas but were ok after that . I tried spraying the yard with a perimeter spray that was supposed to keep fleas away but it's not a permanent thing and you have to keep doing it. I also had to spray the outdoor rug on the porch too. The owners of the cats moved but left them behind . So sad.

What translation Bible was it? Will you get the same or try something new? I've been trying out some online apps for their convenience and being able to research a verse in different translations.

So far, it's been a great year, despite the weather. It was 37 yesterday and I was sweating while I shoveled the snow. Not kidding!

Enjoy the game!

My year is pretty so far—especially now that it's warmed up so much today. :)

Have a great weekend.

Oh, I hope she doesn't streak- it's something I'm sure she'll live to regret! I do hope 2014 is a year of new beginnings for you, especially in job world. Happy New Year!

I haven't written on my main blog yet this new year, but have several posts in mind. I am interviewed two women on the care of their parents. I will post about the quilt I am hopefully finishing my husband's grandson.

I do have another blog I will email you about that I wrote on last Sunday and will post on tomorrow.

Hugs and happy New Year, lovely lady!

That's a lotta cats. Apparently your yard is part of their territory; you will have them until their numbers tip a balance and then they will be fewer until their numbers...etc.
Have you thought of calling an animal protective service or a shelter.

It sounds like the cats could become a problem. I hope you find some answers as to what to do about them.
We will be rooting for different sides in the game tomorrow, but I also hope it is good, fair game without injuries.

Wow, your yard is party central. Hmmm get a watergun and sit out back, that might work lol

Responsible owners spay and neuter their cats and here have to keep them indoors or on leash! If feral, sounds like population will continue multiplying unless sterilized by rescue organization. (Know anyone that wants to adopt kittens) Like I said before, my mom puts out food and enjoys visits. But years ago trapped and had one spayed. She and another male still come by but no more kittens.

I had wondered about your Bible, from older post, if rebound or a new one.

At least the cats will keep the mice away. When I was still at the ranch, I got several cals to stay in the barn after the pack rats decided to occupy. It works well.

I read at night on line. Your bible sounds like the ones Dad used to have. I cannot remember what happened to them, but he did not know how to destroy or rid himself of old Bibles, felt bad so he kept them. One he designated as his 'cut and paste', literally, not as easy as on the word processor. LOL

Got no advice of stray kitties. But it is good to see a post from the bench, always a joy!
Enjoy the game. Hope your team wins.

It's okay if you write about warm weather. We would be glad to know not everyone is freezing! About the Bible, we have a place here that rebinds them at a pretty reasonable rate. The man does a fantastic job. Of course, you may need to start over so you have a place for new marks.

Happy New Year! Mine's okay so far, but too cold!

Love the view....
I hope you can find something new.
I've been watching the playoff games with Mark, trying to spend time with him. Normally I'm just a Super Bowl fan. Wearing out a Bible, that is awesome! That's a lot of cats, hope they leave and then spray your yard.

Hi Betty, it sounds like your new year is off to a pretty good start. Here's to success in finding a new job or even reinventing yourself in starting a new career. I always admire anyone who does that! Happy New Year!

I hope you can find a job that is fulfilling and that you enjoy... It sounds like a good goal.
I know what you mean about your Bible. My sister got mine for me when I was baptized about 20 years ago and it is falling apart. Genesis ends up where Revelation is.. and so on and so forth... you get the picture. So I found a nice Bible at a yard sale this summer and I retired my old one. It was hard to do... but now I'm over half way through and boy is my new one marked up already!!!
Now stop bragging about your warm weather LOL!! I saw how you did that... very sneaky you are ;-) Good luck with the game... and since the Eagles are out... hope your team wins!

I know a company that does a wonderful job of rebinding Bibles. It is more expensive than buying a new one but if the Bible is that sentimental to you, it is worth it.

Praying work gets better the job market is bad out there.

I know if you put boxes out, the cats will climb in them and sit. Then you could bring them to a shelter maybe?

Otherwise, I got nothing.

Oh my a lot of topics.

Our weather here is now warming up - it was cold.

I sure do hope you find a new job that you enjoy.

I hope that gal doesn't have to streak!!!

And I am using some apps on my phone for Bible verses too. When I have to look one up. I started a Bible study this year and bought a new Bible in the Living Translation and love it.

Have you thought of calling an animal protective service or a shelter?

Love, sandie

So far it's been a blessed year! I would like to have an outside cat but I can't with the dogs. They would probably kill one.

Hi Betty!
To tell the truth, I'd forgotten all about the "other" football game. After watching my Panthers fall to SF, I've been helping hubby dismantle his trains in the music room ... great stress relief!
It's crazy how now, even after the holidays, it seems I can't find a spare hour to myself. (Whine)

Sending you lots of positive thoughts re. the job search. I've little facts, but sense this is going to be a really, really positive change. Won't it be fun to look back this time next year?

There are times I want to say stuff about my job, too...but you never know who will read the blog! :)
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

Happy New Year!!!

Hmm... cats....

If heard that if you scatter fresh orange and lemon peels or spray with citrus-scented fragrances, they avoid the place. Coffee grounds, vinegar, oil of lavender, lemongrass, or citronella also deter cats.

I've never noticed my mom's cat avoiding oranges though...

Hey, sorry for being so late. I signed up to follow you by email, but I guess it hasn't showed up yet, or I might of missed it! I get alot of junk mail.

That's nice of you that you didn't want to gloat about the warm weather y'all were having when most of the country was freezing. The lowest temperature it got here was only 25, so it wasn't that bad! Actually I kind of liked it! I enjoy cold weather sometimes!

That's good that you are trying to find a new career. Have you tried going to community college? You don't have to take all of the classes at once, you can just take one, or a couple of classes each semester and there are classes at night and maybe on the weekends.

I'm sure your Bible is in pieces! I'm sure you will be able to find a new one. I am sorry that you had to let yours go!

I'm also sorry about your cat problem. I don't know what you can do about it. Have you tried talking to your neighbor? I'm glad your possum problem is gone!

I loved hearing about the news in your neighborhood!! As you know, Betty, my year has started with most difficult circumstances. But, though life is full of sadness and hardships, there is great JOY in the Presence of the Lord!

GOD BLESS!

Your weather sounds wonderful!!!

Have you Googled to see if there are any groups in your area that deal with feral cats? Or any cat rescues that can take them in if they're not feral? Or at least a TNR program, so there won't be even more cats in the spring?

I just blogged for the first time today and it's the fourteenth already... Hoping for a better year of blogging then last year... Hope this year finds you in a better job situation... I am loving being back in shoes... I lost track of the playoffs after the 49ers won... I so admire that you wore out your Bible and will need a new one... I have several Bibles, but none even remotely close to worn out or even read... I would worry more about the cats multiplying (four times a year) then the fleas... lol... :)

Just caught up on your last 5 posts. So good to read about you and that you are doing well. I love that you choose a word for the year and focus on that. I probably need to focus on the work you had last year...
Hope you find a better job for this year, maybe your word "seek" means to seek a new job too. :)
Wishing you well Betty!!

hey betty! I'm late getting into the new year as well. I was sick, than just lazy about blogging. :-) Gosh, all I know about cats is, if you feed them, they hang around. So I would think if you ignore them, they'd go elsewhere. Not the best advice, probably. Too bad your job has become a burden. It's hard when your work no longer satisfies. Sending a prayer you way for direction on that.
