cost of freedom

Freedom is only free when one looks at the cost it took someone to make someone else free.

Our country is free because people sacrificed to make it free.

Going to war against the British.

Willing to risk life and possessions to have freedom to choose what to do with the country.

I am free because of what Jesus did for me on the cross.

What he was willing to to do to purchase my freedom.

He was willing to shed his blood for all of mankind's sins.

Not just our country, but all, every single person.  Mankind.

He was willing to go innocently to the cross for me.

Thank you Jesus!

Preach it, Sister! There is a song our church used to sing on this day and it had the words, "The cross is my Statue of Liberty". That goes with your message.

Always curious to me is that while colonial sacrifices and even Jesus on the cross are often mentioned ... the greatest sacrifice that actually occurred on the 4th of July holiday was the 36,000 Americans killed or wounded laying on the fields of Gettysburg the morning of July 4, 1863. Perhaps none of us feel equal to the words of Abraham Lincoln? "we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth"

Wonderful post Betty. I was so surprised to get an email for a happy 4th of July from a friends mother in England. I thought it was so sweet of her.
